Timber Flooring FAQs
Q Can we lay floorboards and parquetry direct to concrete?
A Yes, providing the moisture content of the concrete is less than 5.5%. If it exceeds this level we can install a two part moisture barrier under timber flooring which comes with a 10 year warranty from Bostik. Our recomendation would be to use Moisture Barriers on every floor. In fact we can install over almost any flat, level, sound sub floor structure.
Q What types of finishes can I have on timber flooring?
A Three main types of finish are used by us on timber flooring, they are:
1. Solvent based polyurethanes either 2 pack or single part moisture cured polyurethane.
2. Oil based tung oil and oil modified polyurethane, OR
3. Water based polyurethane
They range from high gloss to low sheen.
Q Does the timber come from managed and sustainable forests?
A Yes, Victoria has 75% of its forest in some form of conservation system, seven and a half times greater than the international benchmark of 10% sought by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature and the World Wide Fund for Nature. The remaining 25% is available for timber harvesting to produce the hardwood timber products we all use. Of this available area for harvesting, less than 1% is harvesting annually. This ensures the ongoing sustainability of our national Australian hardwood forest resource. Every hectare harvested is regenerated.
Q Is timber flooring cheaper than carpet?
A A beautiful wood floor need not cost much more than a quality carpet, indeed it will work out cheaper in the long run. Unlike a carpet, your timber flooring will last for years and will increase the value of your property.
Q Is timber flooring healthy?
A Timber floors are easy to clean and free from dust. A wood floor could help minimise allergies and respiratory problems and protect your family's health from dust mites.
Q Are wooden floors cold?
A A real wooden floor retains the warmth and keeps draughts at bay. Cozy and intimate, it fills your home with the living, warm spirit of wood.
